Me: Girl! What you gotta say? You preggy?
Her: No! (laughing)
Me: Are you coming out to me?
Her: HAHA Ore! No…
Me: Ok, what the heck is it?
Her: So, I’m going to (state withheld) tomorrow, and I’ll be going there back and forth for the next few months… (pause)
Her: I was diagnosed with Medullary Thyroid CANCER last week.
Me: No. What? NO! Leyah… (I BURST OUT WAILING!)
She comforts me.
We’re in our early 20’s. No, it’s not ok! But guess what cancer, we’re all booting up with my baby girl to kick your behind!
When I think of my college experience, I’ll most certainly think of you! We had good fun together. From travelling to Florida to campaign for Obama, to seeing me run from dogs, to going on spring break to Miami & Fort Lauderdale… and the bad thing that happened in that parking lot, and our BS story to cover it up! Lol! Lord have mercy on us!
Girl!!! Our cruise! And how I had to beg Petaah to come with our underage selves! Lol. That cruise was litty! Remember when we couldn’t get into the ‘establishment’ in the Bahamas coz of some lituation action… hahaha!! GOOD TIMES! Chatting about someone’s Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall boo. We have shared some beautiful moments, and I’m glad our paths crossed.
You’ll forever be clumsy, lol, but even through that, I have seen you grow into a beautiful, strong, confident, independent woman – inside and outside. You’ve taken the role of mother, aunty and big sissy to the little ones. Girl, you are much admired, and this is only a distraction from the devil. Leyah, lets buckle up! We are ready for this fight! With God, love and the amazing support you have, you will fight this thing! When it’s all over, we will go on a lovely vacay in 2017, God willing. Those tickets to Cuba still cheap? My bags will stay packed.
I pray for God to give you the strength through your treatments and surgeries. You already know I’ll be dropping in steady, and your mommy promised me a key! Aye! Lol. I love you baby girl, you are a natural born fighter, and you will have a beautiful testimony at the end of the day.
Leyah, remember God’s promise to you in Isaiah 41:10. He says, “My darling Aaleyah, don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
You know I’m always here for you, I’ll always be a shoulder to cry on, and Leyah, I’m all laced up with words of encouragement, the word of God, prayers, hugs, senseless talks, jollof rice, and all you need from me! I love you.
